Alors. Not exactly silence, it turns out. But technical body work, isolating body parts and playing with rhythm with Jean Claude Cotillard, a very gentle and precise director.
Every movement comes from the core of the body. The arms and legs are just accessories. If you want to walk somewhere, it is the core that has the desire to go, and the legs help you to get there.
Very technical exercises - the kind I love - to bring us into our bodies, with focus and complete concentration. Then improvising and finding the game/sense of play. The technical stuff runs underneath, like a current, constantly. It ensures that our game is watchable - has rhythm, pause, tension, conflict.
Watching other Clowns improvise today, the ones who have total physical awareness and control of their bodies are infinitely more watchable than the others. Their clarity of movement gives so much space for play.
If I wasn't totally convinced before today, I am now, that I need to continue (re-boot) my daily physical practice. If I do this (stretching, yoga, star jumps...whatever it may be) everyday, then on the days when time is short before work, 5 minutes will be enough to bring me back into my body. But these 5 minutes HAVE TO HAPPEN. So expect to see me doing strange stretches before each shift, and please join me if you feel the urge. (And now this promise is on the internet forever, so you know that I mean it).
This evening we are going to see a show at the Festival de Pallassos de Cornella. What a treat! (as if we weren't getting enough already).
